Anti Inflammatory Golden Milk Shake

It's Golden Hour!
It’s golden hour over here in Holly’s Nutrition Kitchen so I hope you’re ready for this Golden Milk Shake to shake up your breakfast routine for the better!
For those that love their turmeric, golden milk tea, THICK smoothies, or a fun anti-inflammatory snack this shake is for you!
Now normally I am not a big shake or smoothie person because I like to chew and crunch on my food but lately as the weather has been heating up here in Michigan I have been craving just about anything that comes out of the freezer so insert LOTS of smoothies and yogurt bowls and I’ll add in some granola, nuts and seeds in the mix so that I still get that crunch effect I love so much. You might also be surprised that I have never actually had a classic golden milk tea drink before in my life ever… I am someone who only drinks ice cold water and iced tea, as long as it’s cold I’ll drink it but something about drinks being warm just turns me off. I have always wanted to try golden milk and I actually bought a golden milk mix so that I could try it but I just couldn’t bring myself to drink it warm so I came up with the brilliant idea to add it to my smoothies in the mornings and let me just say I have just found my favorite new smoothie combo! The combination of the frozen banana and kabocha squash turns the smoothie texture right into a soft serve ice cream cone and gives it a bit of natural sweetness without it being too sweet and taking over the turmeric flavor.

Golden Milk may be a trend right now but I don’t see it going anywhere anytime soon. The benefits of turmeric, ginger, and adaptogens are far too beneficial to just come and go without being missed by millions all over the world. Turmeric has so many medicinal properties and has been used for over hundreds and thousands of years by ancient societies to help treat and cure illnesses, inflammatory conditions and infection.
The benefits of turmeric have been studied more and more in the past ten or so years and I have found this type of research rather interesting!
Some of the most well know benefits of turmeric come from the compounds inside this ancient spice, curcumin is one of those compounds. It is a antioxidant that has been shown to help your body fight off cell damage by protecting the cells from oxidative stress which occurs naturally in the body as cells work to repair tissues, bones and muscles, and work to provide energy to the body. Turmeric also has been shown to have anti cancer and anti inflammatory properties. These properties have been studied and have been shown to help people who are dealing with arthritis, inflammation from being overweight, auto immune conditions and symptoms related to Type 2 Diabetes like nerve pain and loss of vision.

Along with turmeric this golden milk shake is also filled loaded with other anti inflammatory superfoods thanks to my favorite golden milk drink mix by Organifi.
Organifi’s Gold turmeric and reishi infused tea is packed with over 9 superfoods for protecting immunity and contains powerful adaptogenic mushrooms, both Reishi and Turkey Tail that help the immune system function like it is naturally designed to. This drink mix promotes recovery and repair within the body which are essential to keeping your immune system
strong and and your health in check all day and throughout the night while you sleep.
This drink mix can be taken anytime of the day but it is best known for its use for Supporting rest and relaxation during the evening so if you find yourself having trouble winding down for the night you can mix this with warm water and rest assured you’ll be asleep in no time.
Organifi Gold contains Turkey Tail which I mentioned earlier. Turkey Tail acts as a prebiotic in the gut which feeds the beneficial bacteria to help boost the immune system. Turkey tail has a long history of use in Asia among practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine, who used it to promote general health, strength and longevity. It has long been used to fight off colds/flu, fight off infections/disease as well.
Along with Turkey Tail, Reishi mushrooms which are also included in this mix have been shown to have many beneficial immune boosting properties as well. Reishi contains triterpenes that relieve allergies, and are anti-microbial, anti-viral, anti-fungal. Because these mushrooms work as an “immune modulator,” reishi mushrooms can help restore hormonal balance and regulate activity of the immune system. Research shows that reishi mushrooms have a medicinal normalizing property where it helps the body regulate different systems including the endocrine, immune, cardiovascular, central nervous and digestive systems.
As you can see golden milk packs a powerful punch and has so many benefits when it comes to digestive health and immune support for the body.
If I haven’t convinced you yet to hop on the golden milk train and at least give it a try maybe this shake will do the trick!

Golden Milk flavor with all the hidden fruits and vegetables to add fiber and even more nutrients to your breakfast!
The base of this smoothie consists of frozen bananas and frozen kabocha squash. These two frozen foods combined with the golden milk drink mix turn your typical smoothie right into a sweet, low sugar shake that is spoonable with a texture similar to a soft serve ice cream cone! Both the banana and squash smooth out while blending to create the creamy rich texture that you are used to only finding in ice cream but with this recipe there is no sugar rush that is typical with an ice cream cone! Add a scoop of your favorite protein powder like this Nuzest Chai Turmeric Protein and a splash of almond milk or Remedy golden milk mix and you just got yourself a very thick and creamy breakfast shake loaded with anti inflammatory and immune boosting properties!

Pick your toppings and enjoy! I added some granola and almond butter to the mix and ate this on my porch sitting in the sunshine! But you can decide how you want to eat it and where!
Some alternative ingredients that you might find helpful are listed below!
- For the Remedy golden milk drink you can use any liquid you have on hand like almond milk or water!

- 1/2 cup Remedy Organics Golden Milk Protein drink
- 2 scoops Nuzest Chai Turmeric Protein Powder
- 1 scoop Organifi Gold Tea
Instructions
- In a blender pour in the Golden Milk Protein drink and then add in the frozen banana, ice, and kobocha squash.
- Blend until chunky and the frozen banana and squash is almost blended all the way.
